  1. Cut the firm tofu into 6 equal pieces and lay on 2 layers of paper towels. The tofu pieces should be around 1 cm thick.
  2. Now place another paper towel on top of the tofu and pat dry.
  3. Add butter to a heated frying pan. Cook the tofu for 5 minutes over medium heat.
  4. Flip the tofu, being careful not to break it. Cook for 5 more minutes over medium heat.
  5. Mix together all of the ☆ ingredients and add to the pan. Shake the pan and cook until the liquid is reduced. Sprinkle with parsley and it's done.

So, I created this vegan caramelized black pepper tofu and noodles! While I have obviously never tasted the original version, this vegan version is one of the best things I have ever tasted. It is sweet, but because of the spice from the black pepper, the salt from the soy sauce and the acid from the vinegar, it is so well balanced. These tender strips of super firm tofu are marinated in low sodium soy sauce, coated in my own spicy Blackened Seasoning recipe, and cooked until they're dark and crispy. The salty, spicy, burnt flavor experience of this recipe cannot be understated.
